A fantastic, chunky mid 20th Century 1953 era 1 Quart British Royal Navy Rum Cup, or, Grog or Copper Measure as we Brits Call It,
The cup is in great condition with the Queen Elizabeth 'ER' mark over the numeral '6' to the rim. Next to that the numeral '3' sits on top of the numerals'53'. The word 'Quart' is in a script typeface and is positioned central to the cup's height. The handle is riveted to the main body with the rivets being visible on the inside. The base has the words 'Jan 1953', Numerals '53171' and back to back 'B's with 4 small squares centred in the middle.
The handle itself is formed out of a folded over copper strip with rivets attaching it to the top and base of the cup.
This Grog Cup would have been used by the British Royal Navy to share out the rum to the sailors from the ship's main deck barrel.
A supurb rare piece of British naval history that are incredibly difficult to find these days and are fetching extraordinarily high prices. A real investment piece.
